  • Dissection of Conlon Nancarrow = “PIONEER OF AI MUSIC” and Study of Mr. S with Hidden “POTENTIAL FOR AI MUSIC”
  • “Artificial Intelligence Art and Aesthetics Research Group” (AIAARG), founded by artists Hideki Nakazawa and Mika Kusakari in 2016, has published a large B4-sized book “Artificial Intelligence Art and Aesthetics Exhibition - Archive Collection.” This is the record collection of “Artificial Intelligence Art and Aesthetics Exhibition,” the world's first large-scale comprehensive AI exhibition with emphasis on aesthetic perspectives held at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) in 2017-18. This is a new publication that incorporates the knowledge of the year, and we are currently holding a series of commemorative events for its publication. The second latest version will be held at NADiff a/p/a/r/t on Sunday, February 16th. Continuing from the first part where Koichi Takahashi gave a lecture on the theme of “the divorce of science and technology,” in the second part, we will talk about Conlon Nancarrow, who composed for player piano and died in 1997, with his wife Yoko Sugiura Nancarrow (Yo Sugiura), archaeologist welcoming from Mexico, because the program of the said exhibition in Okinawa included the Japanese first consecutive concert of Nancarrow's music for player piano. Therefore, in this DOMMUNE, while showing Nancarrow's piano rolls from the Kusakari collection, we would like to dissect and introduce this very important and unique composer who influenced Ligeti from the viewpoint of "Pioneer of AI Music." Furthermore, if time allows, we would like to mention the enormous story behind the story behind the exhibition “What If AI Composed for Mr. S?,” held by AIAARG last fall.
